Custom cabinetry · New Orleans
Andrew Nixon Millworks designs and fabricates custom work for interior designers and private clients across Greater New Orleans. Design, joinery, finishing, and installation all happen in house.
The shop
Every piece is made under one roof, beneath the raised house, by the same hands that drew it.
Cabinet fronts run continuously so the grain carries from door to drawer. Frames are joined with floating tenon joinery. Drawers are built with traditional dovetail joinery. Those details take longer, and they are the reason the work lasts.

Andrew Nixon
He started in his grandfather's woodshop at five, learned moulding knives and freestanding stairs from his mentors at Gus Hartdegen & Sons, and got sober through Bridge House. Today the shop sits under a raised house he bought and rebuilt.

Cabinet fronts run continuously, with no visible line between boxes. Frames are joined with floating tenon joinery. Drawers are built with traditional dovetail joinery. Mouldings come off knives Andrew learned to cut at Gus Hartdegen & Sons.
Portfolio focus follows the top Instagram posts by engagement. These six are candidates until Andrew confirms the final list of 6 to 12 and supplies camera originals. Furniture pieces carry an "Inquire to purchase" line; there is no checkout.

About
The path
Andrew was five when he started in his grandfather's woodshop. Both grandfathers knew the trade: one kept that backyard shop, the other was a contractor who taught him how houses go together.
By eight he was doing labor on job sites. At fourteen he was working real carpentry beside his grandfather on renovations. At seventeen he joined AWD Millwork, and at eighteen he started his first company, Twin Construction. Through school he was in gifted art programs, and he still paints. Wood became the medium.
He built wooden boats with his grandfather in the woodshop, and he has built houses from the ground up, additions and renovations included. That range is why he understands a jobsite a lot better than someone who only builds cabinets: he has done the work on every side of where a cabinet lands.
Around twenty-five he went to work at Gus Hartdegen & Sons and found out how much he had left to learn. His mentors there taught him to cut the knives that make mouldings and to build freestanding staircases. He calls it a different level of carpentry.
He went on to found Andrew Nixon Millworks and to work with leading architects, interior designers, and builders across New Orleans. He favors walnut and white oak, and the details he cares about are the ones you only see up close: continuous cabinet fronts with no visible line between boxes, floating tenon joinery, and traditional dovetail joinery.
To confirm with Andrew: the year Andrew Nixon Millworks was founded.
Recovery
Through his early career Andrew was also struggling with drug addiction. At thirty-three he reached a turning point, went to Bridge House, and did the work to get clean. He has been sober for more than a decade.
His next step in rebuilding was buying a raised house and building his own shop underneath it. He shares this part of his story because, in his words, it might help somebody else with the same problem see that you can come out of it.
He also teaches. A saying from recovery guides how he passes the craft on: you have to give it away to keep it.
Awaiting Andrew's approval of this wording. Facts are drawn from his 2024 New Orleans Homes Design Masters feature.
The shop
The shop sits beneath a raised house Andrew bought and rebuilt. He and three colleagues handle design, milling, joinery, finishing, and assembly there.
